As the new digital cover star of Marie Claire, Karen March steps into the spotlight with a story that feels both grounded and quietly powerful. Her journey—from being discovered as a teenager in Colombia to building an international career and, later, embracing motherhood and entrepreneurship—reveals a woman who has evolved with intention. There is a calm confidence about her now, shaped by experience rather than spectacle. In this conversation, Karen reflects on ambition, reinvention, and the kind of success that comes not from headlines, but from staying true to yourself.

You were discovered at just 15 years old in Colombia. How did entering the fashion world at such a young age shape your character and ambitions?
At that age, I was too young to fully grasp everything that was unfolding around me. Still, I had a strong inner conviction and belief in myself. That confidence shaped my character and gave me the courage to pursue opportunities, gradually building the foundation for what would become a fulfilling international modeling career.
Winning Elite Model Look in 1999 launched your international career. What did that moment mean to you personally and professionally?
That moment changed my life in profound ways. It felt like a beautiful duality—on one side, the end of my simple life as a small-town girl; on the other, the beginning of an exciting new journey. It opened the door to adventure, challenges, invaluable lessons, and hard work that ultimately shaped a successful and meaningful career.

Becoming a GUESS Girl for three consecutive years was a major milestone. How did that experience transform your global career?
Working with GUESS was a turning point for me. It elevated my career to an entirely new level, giving me the opportunity to work internationally, collaborate with renowned photographers, and be represented by prestigious agencies. It truly introduced my image and name to a global audience.
You worked extensively across the United States and Europe. Which fashion city influenced you the most, and why?
Without hesitation, New York City had the greatest influence on me. It became my home for several important years, where I was represented by a highly respected agency. New York offered incredible opportunities to be part of major campaigns and to work with exceptional creative talent. It was there that I truly grew and established myself as a professional model.

A family situation led you to slow down and relocate to Miami. How did that pause redefine your priorities?
That period was deeply transformative for me. When my father was involved in an accident, I chose to set aside my personal goals to be present for my family. It was not an easy decision, but I would make it again without hesitation. That experience reminded me that, above all else, family is what truly matters.

You later transitioned into acting with roles in television and film. What drew you to acting, and what did it give you that modeling did not?
At first, acting felt like a natural evolution in my career, but it soon became something far more meaningful. Studying acting allowed me to explore my emotions and discover new dimensions of myself. It became a powerful form of personal growth and expression. Acting challenged me in deeper ways than modeling ever had and gave me the opportunity to connect with stories, emotions, and people on a more profound level.

Motherhood in 2021 marked a profound change in your life. How has becoming a mother reshaped your sense of self?
Motherhood completely transformed my world. It changed the way I think, the way I live, and the way I see myself. Every day, it inspires me to become a better version of myself. It has taught me patience, humility, and unconditional love. Above all, it has filled my life with a sense of purpose and a kind of love I never knew was possible.
Your podcast, ANIMATE, focuses on wellness and personal growth. Why was it important for you to create this space?
I truly believe that sharing our personal stories helps us heal and connect with one another. Knowing that we are not alone in our experiences fosters empathy and understanding. I also hope that one day my daughter, Zoe, will feel proud of what I have created, and that the conversations and insights shared on the podcast will guide and inspire her throughout her life.

You are now launching your lifestyle brand, ANIMA. What does this project represent in your life today?
This project represents a new dream and an exciting challenge. I have always wanted to create my own brand, but I waited until I felt truly ready. ANIMA will be a lifestyle jewelry line focused on promoting wellness and positive energy. Starting a business is both exciting and slightly intimidating, but I know that growth only happens when we are brave enough to take the first step.

After many reinventions, how do you define success now?
Today, success is no longer about achievements or recognition. For me, it is the peaceful feeling of going to bed knowing that I gave my best, stayed present, and remained true to who I am. Success is not about what I have accomplished—it is about the person I have become.
